Darker Tides

Support

Darker Tides shows New Zealand tide times on your iPhone Home Screen, with a tide curve and a timetable for 88 ports around Aotearoa. Tide predictions come from Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). The app works entirely offline and collects no data.

Where does the tide data come from?

Predictions are sourced from Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). The attribution is shown inside the app.

How accurate are the predictions?

Tide heights and times are official LINZ predictions, computed on your device. As with all tide predictions, actual water levels can be affected by weather, barometric pressure, and local conditions. Always rely on official sources for navigation and any safety-critical decisions.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. All tide data is bundled with the app, so Darker Tides works with no internet connection. Nothing is downloaded, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Which places are covered?

88 ports from Northland to Stewart Island, including the Chatham Islands. Use the searchable, region-grouped picker to choose your port; recent ports stay at the top for quick access.

Why am I seeing an “out of date” notice?

The bundled predictions currently run through 2028. As that date approaches, the app shows a notice. We release updates with refreshed data, so keeping the app up to date in the App Store keeps your tides current.

Does Darker Tides collect my data?

No. The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. Your selected port and settings are stored only on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
